Tire Mechanic

Position: Tire Mechanic

Supervised by: Shop Manager

Job Summary:

The Tire Mechanic is responsible for but not limited to, ensuring that heavy and light trucks are equipped with safe tires at all times and to ensure that there are no cuts, gouges or tears in the tires. He is also responsible for checking the tread to determine if and when the tire should be replaced.

Responsibilities of the position are:

• Follow all safety procedures and work in a safe manner.
• Mounting, balancing, rotating, and repairing all types of tires from passenger to large trucks.
• Must be able to work in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment as part of a team.
• Must be a self-starter and willing to take the initiative, able and willing to work without direct supervision, and be willing to attend appropriate training sessions.
• Remove worn tires from service at proper time for recapping or replacement.
• Assure all tires conform to all DOT regulations at all times.
• Communicate any and all problems with Shop Foreman or Fleet Manager.
• Maintain tire bank at a constant state of readiness.
• Assist Shop Foreman in tracking tires at cap shop, and for warranty adjustments.
• Drive Service truck to change tires on job sites and emergency Roadside Assistance.
• Process all necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
• Cleaning and maintaining your work area.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• At least 2 years of relevant commercial truck service experience is preferred.
• TIA Certification preferred.
• Good oral and written communication ability.
• Must have or be able to acquire a CDL.
• Must be a team player.
• Must maintain good attendance record.

Environment:

Outdoor field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, vibrations, and all types of weather and temperature conditions;  work in or around water; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends. This physically strenuous position involves mounting and dismounting heavy-duty truck tires numerous times each day. In addition, the position involves frequent bending, twisting and lifting, pushing, pulling up to 100 pounds.
